Getting Better in Brownwood
Back to West! This past week I played in the Hideout Open in Brownwood, Texas. This was hands-down the most fun tournament so far this season.
The fun kicked off quick. On the drive out to Texas, my mom and I stopped half way and stayed with my cousins in Louisiana. That evening was a full on blast. Brother Dave grilled dinner, laughs were made when the non-golfers tried chipping in the back yard, and sweet moments were shared while we sat together in the living room singing songs and playing the guitar.
I arrived at my host house in Brownwood the next day, and boy I had no idea just how great of a family I was getting for the week. When we first pulled into the house, I noticed they had a jeep that had the top and the doors off. It was so cool. I mentioned the car and how awesome I thought it was. Then, Mr. Doug kicked off the fun for the week when he looked at me and said the Jeep was mine to drive for the week. *please note that Alison is screaming internally at this point. Literally on cloud 9*
The golf part was also a lot of fun. I had my mom on the bag, and I was paired with some great girls. My swing felt good and I can feel my game trending in a good direction. However, I didn’t have all of my best, and that makes it tough when the cut ended up being at -2. But I’m reminding myself that this is a marathon, not a sprint. Putting it all together will come. I just have to focus on the positives that I can see and keep pushing forward.
Even though my tournament golf ended early for the week, there was still tons of fun left to be had in Brownwood tho! After the first round of the tournament, I got to help out with the kids clinic that the WAPT puts on. For those who do not know, I love kids and I love getting to teach golf to kids. So for an hour, I got to share some tips with the cutest little humans and was reminded of the bigger picture. On Friday, my host mom took me to play golf at the other course in town. I played with her and one of their family friends, Mr. Wayne, and it was such a blast! Then, for my last night in town, my host parents took my mom and I out for some karaoke. My host mom rocked the stage, and then (after some hard twisting of the arm) they somehow convinced me to get up there! It was out of my comfort zone, but boy was it fun.
Thank you, Brownwood, for the forever memories and lessons. Looking forward to what these next two in Texas have in store! And thank you, God, for giving me the platform to compete at the level I do.
