Abilene, Texas and Adventures
Quick side note! Over the weekend between Brownwood and this past week, it was my tour friend Mikayla's birthday. To celebrate, we went to Fort Worth on Saturday and had ourselves a ball! We went to a concert at Billy Bob's and then mom and I toured around the Stockyards on Sunday before heading to Abilene.
If anyone has ever told you that Texas is hot, they were lying. It’s actually REALLY hot. This week was a good test of stamina as we played in 100 degree heat with a heat index around 110-115. Kudos to my mom for still agreeing to caddy for me too.
I was host housed this week with an awesome friend, Haley Greb. We would soon find out that we were given the best host parents in all of Abilene, Texas - stay tuned. (How I keep getting the best host parents at each event is beyond me.)
I got into in my second pro-am this week and it was another great experience. My group was so fun and kind, and plenty of laughs were shared throughout the round. It was also another fun week volunteering for the kid's clinic!
Day one of the event was a grind on the golf course. A bogey here or there isn’t the end of the world, but it will start to feel like it when you play the whole day without any birdies. I took the lessons for the day, and made a game-plan for tomorrow. I knew I wasn’t out of it, but I needed to go low to make the cut. Unfortunately, the “go low” plan didn’t fall into place. However, the good news is that there were still strides made in the game.
It’s hard to mentally focus on the ups when the scoreboard doesn’t reflect the progress. But I know the numbers will reflect eventually. It’s just a matter of patients and perseverance.
Ok, so, circling back to my awesome host parents. Haley and I had some days to spare before we needed to leave for Anna, Texas. The first day off, our host mom took Haley and me to play 18 at the North Course. On Friday, our host parents planned out the best activities for our last day with them. In the morning, we got up and played 9 holes at the North Course. Once we finished there, we went home, packed up quick, and drove out to their lake house. Haley, my mom, and I then found ourselves on a boat and wake surfing the day away. It was so. much. fun! Truly, thank you Mr. and Mrs. Thaxton for the week of a lifetime. You guys were awesome!
Above all else, I want to thank God for giving me the platform to compete at the level I do. It’s a blessing that I couldn’t do on my own.
